“The Sharp Pain of Freedom” Remembering Dennis Brutus

πŸ“š Join me on Sunday, December 1st at 2pm EST for a special virtual poetry reading to honor the 100th birthday of Dennis Brutus.

🌈 I’ll be reading my poem “The Sharp Pain of Freedom,” reflecting on my childhood experiences and the first time I learned about apartheid and segregation. One of my passions is human rights, and this poem speaks to the impact of these injustices on my understanding of the world. This event celebrates Dennis Brutus’s legacy as a South African activist, poet, and truth-teller, who was imprisoned alongside Nelson Mandela and was also a dedicated teacherβ€”a man whose powerful voice stood against the brutality of apartheid and continues to inspire.

πŸ’– Everyone is welcome to join this gathering of poets as we honor Brutus’s courage and the transformative power of art and protest. 🌐 The event will be held on Zoom, and I invite you to join us in the spirit of truth, protest, and poetry.

πŸ“Ί “Dennis was one of those rare individuals who had to tell the truth… If he had not been political, if he could have kept his mouth shut, he would have been recognized as one of the world’s great poets.” – Larry Robin #dennisbrutus #poetrycommunity #humanrightsforall #UnitedNationsHumanRights
