My journey into storytelling began with a poem, as many of my writings do, exploring the intricate web of human connections that deepen through adversity and the healing embrace of nature. However, as the narrative unfolded, it became clear that neither a poem nor a traditional short story could capture the essence I sought. It was only when I framed it as a letter that everything clicked into place. This revelation was inspired by my time in Arizona, where the dramatic landscapes became a sanctuary after my return to the United States from Canada. The act of hiking and mountain biking through these vistas offered a profound connection to nature that deeply influenced my writing.

The majestic scenery of Arizona, from Papago Park’s earthy trails to the Grand Canyon’s vast expanse, transcends its role as a mere setting. It becomes a voiceless narrator, reflecting and shaping the emotional odysseys of Emma and Jackie, illustrating how our inner landscapes are often mirrored by the natural world around us.
