“Muse” as Six Word Memoir” Society of illustrators: Museum of Illustration Sketchbook Show

“Muse: Bits & Pieces of Childhood” at the Society of Illustrators

I’m excited to share that one of my sketchbooks, which began with a 6-Word Memoir, “Muse: Bits & Pieces of Childhood,” will be featured in the Society of Illustrators SKETCHBOOK show from November 1, 2022, to January 7, 2023.

The Creative Process

This sketchbook evolved into a larger graphic story, weaving together bits and pieces of family memorabilia from my childhood. The collage was created with watercolor painted tissue paper, newspaper articles, and photos, capturing the essence of growing up backstage.

The Story Behind the Memoir

The baby in the picture is from a promotional piece I was in when my dad starred in “Tug Boat Annie” in the 1950s. This personal connection adds a unique layer to the sketchbook, blending nostalgia with artistic expression.

1. Newspaper Clipping: Modeled a bikini made from my dad’s ties. 2. Society of Illustrators, NY: Member of the Society of Illustrators in New York.3.  Cloudy, the Horse: Featured in “Tugboat Annie Meets the Texan,” starring my dad, Bud Browning.
